First Impression: Revlon Colorstay Foundation

Hey!

I recently got the Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily skin.
It's summer and I don't think a dewy foundation is going to hold up well, especially in Florida heat.
(All my foundations have a dewy finish.. go figure)

I wanted to do a first impression of the Revlon Colorstay Foundation because I haven't used it enough times to give a good review on it, so I figured it'd be appropriate to do my first impressions based on the first time I wore it.

As most foundations do, it has 1.0 FL oz
Mine, as you can see, is in 110 Ivory.

I instagram'd a picture of it saying I liked it so far, but the smell was hardly bearable.
Before I bought it, I read and saw a lot of reviews that complained about the smell of this.
When I first smelled it, in the bottle, it smelled like my Maybelline Age Rewind liquid foundation I got about two years ago. (Disliked that product very much) Which wasn't too much for me to handle.
However, as I applied it, the smell changed. It was almost like I put perfume on my face and it really made me feel gross. (The thought of that, not the product itself) Two hours later and the smell was still there.

As far as coverage, I really like the coverage of this. It covered almost everything with no concealer. I only did one layer, and I'd say it was medium coverage. It didn't look cakey at all and it gave me a really natural finish. I thought it would turn out to be matte, but it did still leave a little 'shine' on my face when the light hit the high points of my face, which I don't mind. (This was with no powder as well.)

Overall, the smell is disappointing but I do love the coverage I got out of it. I'm going to continue to use it, maybe adding powder will help the smell some. It's not that I could necessarily smell it all the time, but I knew it was there so I was constantly doing the 'duck face' cause I knew I'd smell it.

Once I've used it more I'll do a review on how I feel about it then.
Any tips on how to 'dim down' the smell?

Thanks for reading!

  1. Oh gosh...I don't what I would do if I hated the smell of something that much!! Does it disappear once it's on your face? At least the finish is really nice!

    1. Well, it's not a constant smell but I can smell it if I do like a kissy face, the smell is still there. Sometimes it does creep up into my nose though even after it's been on for a while.
I'm glad the finish is nice too, or else I'd be so disappointed!

  2. Yikes, I don't know about the smell...I don't like when things have a not so pleasant scent :(
I'm glad the coverage was good! I've heard a lot of good things about this foundation too :D

    1. Yeah, I tried it again with powder and I really didn't smell it at all after it dried! That made me feel a lot better about it. (:

  3. Interesting. When I used this, I either didn't notice the smell or didn't think it was bad at all.

    1. Yeah it is weird, I've used it twice since then and I notice the smell when I put it on but it doesn't smell nearly as bad as the first time I did. I also don't smell it much, if it all, after it sets. Maybe I was just irritable that day and it got to me more.
